Air Conditioning and Heating

The vehicle Heating and Air Conditioning system heats and cools the vehicle cabin and defrosts the windows. Most would agree that working A/C and heat are a must. The Air Conditioning and Heating system is composed of 9 parts:

  • Compressor

Function - compresses and circulates refrigerant throughout the cooling system.

Signs of Wear - air conditioning doesn t cool, air conditioner making noise, clicking noise.

  • Compressor Clutch

Function - turns the compressor on and off.

Signs of Wear - air conditioning not blowing cold air, noisy air conditioning.

  • Condensor

Function - a radiator-like unit that cools the refrigerant gas back into a liquid.

Signs of Wear - ac air not cold, physical damage to the condenser.

  • Expansion Valve

Function - the restriction point at which the refrigerant expands and cools.

Signs of Wear - ac is not cooling.

  • Accumulator/Drier

Function - stores and removes liquid in the refrigerant until it changes into a gas refrigerant.

Signs of Wear - ac is not cooling.

  • Evaporator

Function - absorbs heat from the cabin air and removes its moisture.

    Signs of Wear - .

  • Blower Motor

Function - drives air through the cabin's heating and air conditioning system.
Signs of Wear - lack of airflow through the cabin vents, noisy air conditioning
  • Heater Core

Function - a small radiator through which engine coolant flows in order to heat the air entering the cabin.

Signs of Wear - ac odor, sweet-smelling vapor through the defroster or other cabin vents, insufficient or lack of heat in the cabin.

  • Heater Hose

Function - routes the heating and air conditioning system's liquid and gas.

Signs of Wear - evidence of hose leaking, cracking or hardening, brittleness or lack of heat/cooling within the cabin, car heat not hot.

Your vehicle's Heating and Air Conditioning system should be checked once a year.
